Writing for the Screen

                                                                     YOUTH AND ICT

The main objective of in Screen is to empower young people(16-25 years old) to deal effectively with situation concerning excessive preoccupation with internet, equipping them with the skills and the methodological and technological tools to modify computer behavior for healthy computer use.

This concentrates on the effects of Information and Communication Technology(ICT) on the youth behaviors. According to some studies people who have been using internet more or in another word addicted to the net, are faced to the social isolation. To test the relationship between those two factors, ICT and social behavior, a random sampling included 500 people were selected from the society of shiraz university students. They used UCLA Loneliness Scale (Russell, 1996) and  Young Scale for internet addiction(Young, 1998) to gathering data. The result showed significant difference between differed users groups. Addicted group are more alone than other groups.

Results are very telling when dividing the population into age groups. There are differences in the assessments of

ICT-related needs between younger and older people in the societies. In general, younger consumers are associated
with the role of early adopters and they rank both having a cell phone and internet access closer to the base of
Maslow’s pyramid. Based on young people’s assessments, having a cell phone is, in most countries, more highly valued than some basic needs, such as having money for old age, owning a car or a house and having a fulfilling job.
In addition, internet access is no longer the most dispensable need.
