Those Days

Image
I've got so many days in my life when I cried so hard, I thought I won't never get out of that phase alive-vision was blurry due to tears, I couldn't catch sight of the light at the end of the tunnel I was in; barely breathing and too exhausted to go on. I even told myself that, that was it, the end of me. When people asked how I was doing that time, I just laughed, for words weren't enough to explain the situation- I just smiled and said I was doing fine, when in fact, I didn't know if they would see me the other day. Today, I remembered one of those times and managed to laugh, not because what I have went through was funny, but I can't believe myself that I am still here- kicking and breathing. My ''who-would-have-thought'' moment in life. I know, I still have days to face another sadness ahead of me, and I am aware that I will do those same things I had done before, for it is a cycle, really: I will get sad, will weep it all out th...

A Time I Knew Myself

Image
My mind is haunted by the image of myself in the mirror. Tears appear to be burning in my eyes. What is the source of my anguish? What have I done so wrong that I am subjected to such inhumane treatment? Nothing in my 19years of life has been easy. Nothing has gotten to the point where I had to choose which worked best for me. The big day had arrived. The day I accepted my tragic fate.  I'm at a point in my life where some things are difficult for me to adjust to. Strange new happenings, and good conversations that seem to fade. What is the underlying cause of this? I'm at a point in my life where there's no distinction between what I'm supposed to do and what I'm not supposed to do. Why is it that everything is supposed to be governed by laws? Why must everything be kept cautious and quiet? I have an odd habit of wondering and wondering. I have an odd way of looking for answers to questions that pique my interest. Why does everything change in the blink...

A Life of Dabbawala

Image
Dabbawala One of the world’s most populous cities, Mumbai is home to almost 20 million people, 7.5 million of whom commute to and from work every weekday. As a result, the metropolis’s public transport system, with its snaking grid of trains and tubes, is fit to burst, ferrying its cargo around like so many red blood cells in a vast network of veins and arteries. It’s an immense but incredibly organised species of chaos. As well as making sure all these employees arrive at their workplace on time, another necessity is guaranteeing they’re equally well fed and watered. Step forward the humble but hallowed Mumbai dabbawala – “one who carries a box” – who form a community of over 5,000 brethren responsible for delivering as many as 200,000 meals every single lunchtime. Dispensing with all forms of technology that are more sophisticated than a locomotive, the sprawling team feed the city’s workfo...
